Tomorrow, it begins

Today has been something of a mad rush.  We have not had the Ghia for literally the past month.  A week before Christmas, the car was dropped off with Hilltop Motors - the air-cooled VW specialist in Jacksonville where we have all of our work done.  The guys there are nice, but a bit disorganized.  Every time I call to get an update, they energetically reply with "Oh hey... I've been meaning to call you this week."  There was a small laundry list of repairs we needed, plus a few that they found.  We also added halogen headlights so that we can be seen a bit better.  We do not plan on driving at night, but you never know.

That's a 1972 Ghia for sale in the foreground.  I prefer mine because Federal regulations led to less attractive bumpers and less horsepower in 1972.  But the red color is pretty nice.

After Hilltop, we took the car to have new carpet installed and the seats "rebuilt".  The upholstery in the car is great, but the springs were shot.  That meant that we got the car last night; we had new tires installed this morning.  The old ones had an absolute ton of tread, but dry rot was starting to show.  I then washed the car and cleaned up the interior.

I don't know if you can tell from this picture, but it is a very small car.  Here is a picture of it with an iPod for comparison.

In all fairness... that is an early model iPod, and they have gotten smaller with more recent versions, but still... it is a tiny car.

  1. Be careful - the iPhone 6 Pluses nowadays might be bigger than your entire car!
